If you have not filled out a goldenrod postcard to get monthly emails from ICAN you should sign up on-line at www.ICANsucceed.org there are many exciting college informational pieces on this website. Take some time to check it out.

FRESHMAN

  • Meet with your counselor to select your classes for 10th grade. Choose your courses wisely to stay on track to meet future college admission requirements.

SOPHOMORE

  • Visit ICAN’s website for a list of Iowa college Fairs taking place this spring.

JUNIOR

  • Summer WorkStudy applications are due March 1. This is your opportunity to earn $8.50 an hour. Juniors will be able to earn $510.00 (non-taxable) during the WorkStudy program. You will be able to work in a career field that you are interested in pursuing. E-mail Phyllis if you want more details.
  • Put together a resume listing your activities, volunteer experiences, academic achievements and employment. Use your educationplanner.com account to save your resume.
  • Investigate careers at the ICAN and educationplanner websites.
  • Use the career assessment at the education planner site to get a handle on the career(s) you are interested in pursuing.
  • Do you know someone who works in a job related to your career interest? Interview them to find our what educational requirements they needed to get their job. Find our what they like most about their work
  • Make the most of your summer. Search for summer camps in your area of interest (i.e. sports, band, drama or academics. Complete your Upward Bound Continuing Application.

SENIOR

  • All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship The application is available at: https://www.iowaonline.state.ia.us/csac/aios/aios.asp
    First priority will be provided to students whose applications are received on or before May 1, 2008. Awards will be made to students whose applications are received after May 1, 2008, only if funding remains available after all renewals and on-time, eligible applicants have been served.
